How To Choose Food Service Containers Los Angeles

By Brenda Roberts

Choosing the ideal container to use for serving food on a given occasion is more complicated than meets the eye. Something that is convenient to use, like plastic, is less environmentally friendly than paper-based options, which can be flimsy and disintegrate. The temperature of the food, whether the container is for service or for service, liquid versus solid, all play a role in selecting the right packaging. One thing is certain, discussing food service containers Los Angeles brings to mind pictures of stadium food, such as burgers and cokes at Dodger Stadium.

Not a lot of people know this, but Dodger Stadium, home to the LA Dodgers, is metonymous with Elysian Park and with Chavez Ravine. Both the stadium and the Elysian Park neighborhood are located inside Chavez Ravine. The ravine is named in honor of Julian Chavez, a former Los Angeles city councilman who served in the 1800s. The LA Dodgers is a major league baseball team. The team played in 18 World Series', of which it won five times.

Those of you who are not still scratching your heads over who the heck was Julian Chavez may well be asking yourselves what is a metonym, and why has nobody ever mentioned it before. A metonym is an expression, name, or a word that is used in place of something else. An equally acceptable metonym for Dodger Stadium might just as well be Elysian Park.

Elysian Park is a modest, low-income neighborhood of approximately 3,000 residents. While it may bask in the reflected glory of both the nearby stadium and the historic ravine, it does have at least one impressive feature in its own right. It can claim bragging rights for having within its boundaries the first Catholic high school in the city, Cathedral High School.

Cathedral High School was founded in 1925 by Archbishop John Joseph Cantwell. It is a private Catholic college preparatory school catering solely to boys. The school is a Los Angeles Historic/Cultural Monument. Specifically, it was designated monument no. 281 in 1984.

Because of their links to the two metonyms, Elysian Park and Chavez Ravine, it is natural to wonder whether they ever met each other. This is possible, but highly unlikely. Born in New Mexico in 1808, Chavez died in LA in July 1879, five years after the birth of Cantwell in 1874 Ireland. Cantwell died in LA in 1947. Therefore, Cantwell could not have been more than five years old upon the death of Chavez. It is possible they appeared in Dodger Stadium at a ball game on the same occasion, but they would probably not have met.

Plastic food containers are easily malleable to fit the shape of their contents, they offer protection from being squashed, may be reused or recycled, and can be used as storage. Paper or cardboard containers are actually harder to recycle than their polymeric counterparts because food often sticks to or soaks inside them.

Fast foods that are served on-site don't need the extra protection of plastic. Here, paper will do. Restaurants that package their delicacies for carry-out require materials that retain heat and can survive traveling from the point of sale to the customer.
