Learn The Truth Behind The Rise Of Wellsite Geology

By Carolyn Olson

To those who are unfamiliar with the term, geology is the study of nonliving things earth is made up of. The focal point of this branch of is what is inside the crust of this planet. Meanwhile, a wellsite is a specific spot where resources like gas can be extracted from. The average size of these spots is approximately one and half to two acres. However, this will depend on how big or small the production facility needs to be.

There are geologists who focus their attention on minerals and other useful substances, but a wellsite geologist focuses mainly on natural gas and oil. They not only study them, they are also in charge of its extraction on different sites. Once they have found a suitable production facility, they then analyze the different rock formations in order to formulate the best extraction method. There are a multitude of spots where this is done, but the most popular one is probably the wellsite geology Permian Basin.

This basin can be found in the rich lands of the United States. A small section of it is within the boundaries of New Mexico, while the rest of it can be found near Texas. Generally defined as a sedimentary concavity, and is part of what is called the midcontinent producing family.

This zone is considered the second largest natural gas and oil producing spot on the entire planet. It even has the thickest deposits of Permian rocks found in the area. As a result, it has become an important source of potash, otherwise known as potassium salts.

However, it was not always like how it appears today. In the olden days, specifically 1875, it was actually the home of local tribe people. Unfortunately, because of war, they were forced to vacate the premises. Years later after the war, it was then occupied by local farmers and ranchers. These people were so attracted to the verdant grasslands that they decided to stay for good. Even though the soil was good, there was no surface water. In order to sustain their families, they decided to drill the area. Thanks to this, they were able to discover other natural resources that lay beneath.

By the year 1921, drilling and excavation became recognized and official. Since the official production began, workers have uncovered around 29 billion barrels and 75 cubic feet that contains natural gas and oil. Adding to its contributions in the past was during the war. It was able to aid in fueling the resources needed to finally end it. Now in this modern age, there are still no signs of it slowing down.

The business of wellsite geology has increased in a steady pace over the past couple of years. This is particularly evident in America where the production of resources has kept increasing because of the basin. Experts have often stated in studies and interviews that the production levels will only continue to expand in generations to come. Due to that information, economists conclude it to be a good sign for the country.

Following the increase in production, there will be a need to enlist the help of professionals to manage the equipment used in these work sites. These jobs are important because it is through the work of these people that the products are taken to refineries where the processing can take place. In the end, this is still an advantage because there will be more job opportunities for people.

This basin is to thank for, for all of these positive developments. Thanks to this, the economy continues to strive. Not only that, it also has contributions with regard to science. If the area is given enough care and a substantial amount of preservation, it can go on to serve many more generations in the future.
