Basics About Chico Dance Studios

By Matthew Snyder

Dance studios are specifically designed spaces used for rehearsing moves and dancing. This term is also applicable on rooms or buildings that are constructed and equipped for dancing sessions. These spaces are used for special functions which makes their design and construction to be done is a special way. In Chico dance studios can be located from a lot of places with a lot of ease. The high number of dance and music companies in the location contributes to their availability.

Dance studios are designed with smooth floors for most dancing styles. However, if the dancing style in use is tap dancing, the floors are made with hardwood. The spaces are also permanently installed with performance surfaces, which are smooth vinyl floor coverings. These coverings can be rolled up or transported to performance venues. The floors are designed in a way as to promote a certain level of flexibility.

Flexibility of the floors is important because it helps in promoting good health and safety. Such floors absorb the impact that may result from intensive dance exercises such as jumping and jogging. Besides flexible floors, a studio includes a barre, which is usually fixed onto the walls or may be a standalone moveable device. A barre usually rises to the waist and is used to provide support when dancing.

Music is usually an integral part of dancing and that is why almost all studios have some kind of sound systems. The systems are used to play music from various sources such as CDs, Bluetooth devices, tapes, and memory sticks among others. The systems are usually controlled using a remote control to allow the instructor to replay musical passages as needed.

Several musical instruments including pianos have always been included into studios. Pianos are used extensively in tap dancing and ballet. Besides musical instruments, mirrors are also incorporated into most studios. The mirrors stand from the floor to the ceiling. Dancers can see their alignment and position through the mirrors. Wall clocks and a working platform for the instructors are also integral parts.

Facilities are different in various aspects. One of the aspects that differ is the floor area, with some facilities being small and other very huge. Size of the floor area is dependent on age of students, the kind of activity performed, and number of dancers in every session. One should pick a studio in which less than 18 students occupy the floor. This promotes efficiency and allows for mistakes to be noticed and corrected.

Different dance genres differ in how much space they need for exercising. Most genres from Africa and South Africa need little space because dancers are restricted in one place. The same is false for genres such as ballet where broad movement is involved. How the floor is made dictates resilience and length of time dancers can continue dancing. Perfection of moves also rely on the nature of the floor.

Physical specification of a studio must include plenty of headroom. Dancers need to feel free to jump into space without risking knocking their heads on the roof. Besides that, a studio that has high-rising roofs or ceilings also assist in supplying plenty of fresh air, which is necessary for replenishing energy of the dancers quickly.
