China's national flag was adopted in September 1949. This flag was first flown in Tiananmen Square on October 1, 1949 - the day of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The rectangular flag has a red field with five golden-yellow stars (each with five points) in the upper left corner. The star on the left is larger than the other four. The inventor of Chinese National flag is Zeng Liansong (1917-1999) he was an economist in Shanghai and was a member of the CPPCC Shanghai group. He joined the Liberation War against Japan when he was young. The design went through several changes and was finally approved by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on September 27, 1949, at their First Plenary Session. The original design plans contained several alterations in comparison with the modern-day flag.
